Dentures
Dentures are used for partial and total tooth loss. The cause of this loss may be due to decay, disease, old age, and accidents. Dentures give the impression of a complete set of teeth and when correctly fitted can also feel like your natural set. Today there are alternatives to dentures such as implants which unfortunately come with a huge price difference.
There are two types of dentures. Partial is used when only a few teeth are missing which also prevents existing teeth from shifting about. Complete denture cover is used to replace all missing teeth. Dentures are held in place by the natural sucking force from the gums but a fixadent may be used if the patient wants the extra comfort.
To make the dentures an impression is taken of the gums and used as a model. This is the most important part of the process because your dentures are made exactly to fit the contours of your mouth. It is important to remove the dentures overnight and to give your gums a rest. They must be regularly cleaned and kept in clean water when not in use. Overtime dentures may become loose due to the shrinkage of the gums and general wear and tear. Dental implants are now being used as an alternative and are gaining a great reputation.
